Creators of the World-Famous "Utah" and other fine improvisational forms
Your Other Left ("YOL"), a Portland-based long form improvisation
group, was founded in 2001 as an outgrowth of classes taught by CSz-Portland’s
John Breen. The group debuted on stage in July of that year, quickly
garnering attention for their Harold performances, as well as their improvised
movies in the noir and fantasy genres. Over the years, the group has
become well known for its slightly tilted sense of humor.
In 2002, YOL staged
performances of their own long form creations, the character-driven
“Roundabout” and the visually intriguing “Utah”.
Spring 2003 brought a fully improvised musical, including shows
such as “Cannibalism”, “Euphemisms”, and
“The Agony and the Dijon Mustard”. The troupe's performed
the innovative “Run Tony Run”, based on the similarly
titled movie “Run Lola Run”, in the fall of 2003.
Spring 2004 brought a return to the Musical Comedy form, featuring
the fine piano stylings of Knute Snortum.
Your Other Left has the honor of being the first and longest
running long-form troupe to come out of the ComedySportz – Portland
family, which now has numerous improvisational projects that perform
on their
Friday After Hours stage. Members of YOL are active in ComedySportz,
sketch comedy and children's theatre, as well as pursuing individual
improv projects.
